Dr. Sanjay Sharma

Dr. Sanjay Sharma

MD, MSc (Epid), MBA | Founder, PremedSKL

Sanjay Sharma MD, MSc (Epid), FRCS, MBA is a retinal specialist who is a professor of ophthalmology at Queen’s University.

 An internationally renowned eye surgeon, he has treated over 250,000 patients. Dr. Sharma is a clinician-scientist who has published over 300 scientific papers which have been cited over 10,000 times in the peer-reviewed literature and is the author of 3 textbooks, including the American Medical Association’s, Evidence Based to Value Based Medicine.

The recipient of millions of dollars in research funding, he has received numerous national and international awards for research, teaching and innovation in medicine, including those from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Association of Faculties of Medicine in Canada (AFMC) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).

An innovator at heart, he has launched a series of digital platforms, including MEDSKL – a leading medical education platform that now reaches medical students from over 400 Universities. Dr. Sharma, who holds advanced degrees in Epidemiology and Business Administration, completed his medical education at Harvard University.

Dr. Susan Sharma completed her undergraduate degree in Science from King’s College, where she was awarded the Warrena Power Award as its top graduating student. She obtained her medical degree from Dalhousie University and completed her residency in Family Medicine at Queen’s University. The recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, Dr. Sharma, who has been extensively involved in digital health media, serves as PreMedSKL’s Medical Education Curriculum Director.


Dr. Ariel Gershon

Dr. Ariel Gershon completed medical school in 2019 at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry in London, Ontario and is currently a Pathology resident at the University of Toronto. Before that, he completed the specialist program in Pathobiology at the University of Toronto. He is a dedicated teacher. Throughout his residency he as been a lecturer to undergraduate students and medical students at the University of Toronto. He also teaches pedagogical theory to residents across Ontario. At MEDSKL, Ariel founded the resident section editor position, and now oversees residents as MEDSKL Clerkship Director.

Anya Sigurdson

My name is Anya Sigurdson and I am currently a first-year general surgery resident in Saskatoon, SK. I grew up in Regina, completed an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, and worked a few years in oil & gas and manufacturing before switching to medicine. My interests in medicine include medical education and wellness, and outside of medicine I enjoy biking, walking my dog, and reading. I’m excited to share my experience of a non-traditional pathway to medicine and what it’s like to be a surgical resident.

Callum French 

Callum (he/they) is a second-year medical student at the University of Alberta with a passion for mentorship, education, queer health and space medicine. He has a background in Biochemistry and Chemical Engineering from the University of Ottawa and currently serves as the administrator for the Canadian Queer Medical Students Association and as the medical student representative for the Canadian Society of Aerospace Medicine. When he’s not furiously grinding out Anki cards, you can find him lifeguarding on the pool deck, neck deep in the most complex board game you’ve ever seen, or taking a well-earned nap.

Calvin Sun

Calvin Sun is a second-year medical student at the University of Toronto. Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, he completed his undergraduate studies in Health Sciences at Queen’s University, where he was awarded the Chancellor’s Scholarship and the Bank of Montreal National Award. Outside of academics, Calvin is an avid foodie who enjoys cooking and exploring new foods/cuisines. He also values staying active and enjoys running, weightlifting, and being outdoors.

Carmen Kiltz

Carmen is a second-year medical student at the University of Alberta. She attended the Royal Military College of Canada and is a former search and rescue pilot and competitive triathlete who now trains for ultramarathons. She is passionate about values-based mentorship and helping students become the best version of themselves on their path to medicine.

Damilola Rafiat Adekunle

Damilola Rafiat Adekunle

Dami is a Radiation Oncology resident at the University of Ottawa. She earned her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biology, Master of Science in Neuroscience, and Doctor of Medicine from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Dami is passionate about mentorship, advocacy, and advancing inclusion within medicine. She is committed to supporting learners from diverse backgrounds and fostering more equitable spaces in healthcare. Outside of her medicine, Dami enjoys hiking and spending time with friends.

Devina Ramesh

Devina Ramesh is a third-year medical student at Queen’s University. She completed her Bachelor of Life Science at Ontario Tech University, where she was granted two NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards and the Equity Advocate award. In medical school, Devina is involved in research, is an advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusivity (EDI) efforts, and is involved in student government leadership. In her free time, she enjoys dance, playing piano, and reading.

Donya Mahiny

Donya Mahiny is a third-year medical student at the University of Ottawa. She completed her Master of Science in Physiology at the University of Toronto and also holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from York University. Her academic work includes multiple publications in cardiovascular physiology, cardiac regeneration, and artificial intelligence in thyroid cancer research, and she has a growing interest in ophthalmology. Donya is passionate about medical education, mentorship, and community advocacy. Outside of academics, she enjoys playing water polo, hiking, and exploring the city with friends.

Evan Sharma

Evan Sharma is currently a first-year medical student at the University of Ottawa. He is a professional artist who has appeared in documentaries by CBC, Shopify Studios and CTV. The founder of the CovART Challenge, his art has raised over $120,000 for various charities, including the United Way, the CNIB and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Evan completed his Health Science degree at Queen’s University, where he was the recipient of a Chancellor’s Scholarship. He enjoys freshwater surfing, skiing and mountaineering.

Evangeline Tsagarakis

Evangeline Tsagarakis is a fourth-year medical student at the University of Toronto planning to specialize in Pediatrics. She brings a non-traditional path to medicine, having completed a Master’s degree in Philosophy and worked in patient safety and therapeutic recreation before medical school. Evangeline has a longstanding commitment to mentorship and education, having supported learners through academic transitions, career exploration, and wellness. She is passionate about working with children and families and is excited to help pre-medical students navigate their own journeys into medicine.

Hannah Rojas

Hannah is a fourth-year medical student at the University of British Columbia with an undergraduate and master’s degree in kinesiology. She is passionate about women’s health and is pursuing a career in obstetrics and gynecology. Outside of medicine, she enjoys camping, skiing, hiking, and kayaking. Hannah is excited to serve as a mentor, having greatly benefited from mentorship during her own pre-medical journey.

Huzaifa Saeed

Dr. Huzaifa Saeed is an Anesthesiology resident physician at the University of Saskatchewan. He completed both his Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physiology and Pharmacology and his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. He is actively involved in mentorship for high school, undergraduate, and medical students. Dr. Saeed has contributed to national medical education initiatives, including work on the development of the new medical school at Toronto Metropolitan University and participation in residency program accreditation reviews across Canada.

Hi, I’m Jaclyn, a 3rd-year medical student at the University of Calgary. I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, and completed my undergraduate degree in Finance at The Ohio State University. Before medical school, I worked in the sports industry, and I’m passionate about mentorship and supporting others on their journey to becoming their best selves!

Katarina Zorcic

Katarina is a third-year medical student at Queen’s University. She completed her Bachelor of Medical Sciences with an Honours Specialization in Physiology at Western University. In medical school, Katarina has been involved in clinical and implementation research focused on internal medicine, with an emphasis on AI-enabled evidence synthesis, clinical trials, and knowledge translation for clinicians and trainees. In her free time, she enjoys running, figure skating, baking, and traveling.

Kim Dang

My name is Kim and I am a third-year medical student at the University of Manitoba. I completed my Bachelor of Health Sciences at the same university. I am a first-generation immigrant and the first in my family to pursue medicine. I have been involved in various mentorship roles and would be honoured to continue throughout my career. I am passionate about a biopsychosocial approach to medicine and interested in pursuing a primary care specialty. In my free time, I enjoy listening to music, reading, aquafit, and trying new foods.

Kristian Isa

Kristian Isa is currently a first-year medical student at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. He completed his Biomedical Engineering degree at the University of British Columbia, while specializing in biomechanics and biomaterials. He has designed assistive workout devices for athletes with cerebral palsy, collaborated with orthopedic surgeons to develop surgical tools for femoral fractures, and co-founded a free AI platform that improves patient access to clinical trials. A nationally ranked junior golfer, Kristian enjoys weightlifting, pickleball, and exploring innovative ways to merge engineering, athletics, and equitable healthcare.

Kyran is a second-year medical student at the University of Ottawa with a passion for mentoring both undergraduate and high school students. She enjoys supporting others through their academic journeys and sharing what she’s learned along the way. Outside of school, Kyran loves spending her time baking, going for runs, and getting lost in a good book.

Mahala English

Mahala English is a second year medical student at McMaster University. She completed 3 years of a Bachelor of Science majoring in Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia before beginning her medical studies. In her free time she enjoys playing volleyball, tutoring, and community service. She hopes to pursue family medicine and rural practice in the future.

Oleksandr Baran 

Originally from Ukraine, I moved to Canada in Grade 12 and later worked as a hospital pharmacist before applying to medical school in the 2023- 2024 cycle. I’m currently in clinical rotations at the University of Calgary. For fun, I used to Ukrainian dance for years and now I recharge by hiking/backcountry camping/skiing, running, spending time with friends and playing with my dog Ollie. I’m excited to support, motivate, and learn from you; keep up the great work!

Omar Moghrabi

Omar Moghrabi is a first-year medical student at the University of Ottawa. He has a background in scientific research, developed through his undergraduate studies in Translational and Molecular Medicine. His many projects range from discovering a species of bacteriophage to assessing genetic pathways involved in muscle tissue repair. You can catch Omar spending his free time playing chess, soccer, and basketball.

Peter Noel

Peter is a first-year medical student at Memorial University of Newfoundland from Conception Bay South, NL. He completed his undergraduate studies in Translational and Molecular Medicine at the University of Ottawa, where he worked for four years as a student-mentor with the French Immersion Stream. Peter is passionate about community engagement, scientific inquiry, global citizenship, and medical education. Outside of academics, he enjoys sailing, hiking, playing squash, and eating dark chocolate!

Hi everyone! I’m Sean, a first-year Internal Medicine resident at McMaster University and a McMaster medical school graduate. I’m pursuing a career in General Internal Medicine, with a special interest in hematology and cardiology, and plan to practice both inpatient and outpatient medicine. Amy Basilious

Amy Basilious is a medical graduate from the Schulich School of Medicine at Western University, which she attended after completing her undergraduate degree in Behaviour, Cognition and Neuroscience. She is currently pursuing a post-graduate studentship in Retinal Disease and Epidemiology at the Ivey Eye Institute in London, Ontario. She is passionate about improving visual outcomes of patients with eye disease, refugee and newcomer health, and mentorship within medicine.

Britta Gustavson is currently a fourth-year medical student at McGill University. She grew up in Victoria, British Columbia and is starting a residency in ophthalmology at the University of British Columbia in 2022. Ehsan Misaghi

Ehsan is an MD/PhD student at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. His current research involves studying the genetic correlates of eye development and specifically an eye disease called coloboma. He has a masters in Neuroscience and an undergraduate double-degree in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering. He is also involved in medical artificial intelligence (AI) startups and committees, is an advocate for equity diversity and inclusion (EDI) in medicine and sciences, and has mentored multiple students from different backgrounds and at different stages.

Bryce Snow

I was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming. A track scholarship led me to the University of Wyoming where I graduated with a Bachelor’s in physiology in 2016 and a Master’s in physiology in 2020. I am passionate about access to nutritious food and fitness facilities in under-served communities and tentatively plans to practice family medicine in Wyoming. When not studying, I enjoy skiing, building furniture, writing music, and spending time with my wife.

I am the first in my family to pursue this path, so I relied heavily on university supports to learn about medicine as a career; now I give back by mentoring younger students.

My current research involves studying the genomic data in head and neck cancers to identify potential biomarkers for early diagnosis. Valerie Doyon

Valerie is a 4th year medical student in the Island Medical Program of the University of British Columbia. She completed a bachelor’s in biomedical science in the French language at the University of Ottawa, where she worked as an official Student-Mentor for the Faculty of Science. Since then, she has continued to engage with multiple mentorship programs for ages between 16-24 throughout medical school. She is involved on various committees including rural student admissions, as site president of class council, and on the board of directors of the Scleroderma Association of BC. She is passionate about skin cancer and creating multimedia technologies for point-of-care tools and medical education. In her free time, she enjoys practicing karate, jogging, brewing kombucha, cooking, and watching the Bachelor.

My name is Xinran (pronounced as “Shin-ran”), and I’m a third-year medical student studying at the University of Toronto. I completed my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience & Physiology at the same university. Coming from an immigrant family, I’m passionate about the medical care of immigrants & refugees in Canada. I also hold an interest in promoting diversity in Medicine through equitable access to mentorship. Outside of academics, I enjoy hiking, running, reading, and spending time with my lovely animals (I have one bunny and one cat, and I foresee this group to continue expanding).
